After completing the first 12 months of your tenancy within your current apartment at Stanford West, you may be eligible to upgrade to a larger apartment home at Stanford West Apartments.
Eligibility for Upgrading
After completing the first 12 months of tenancy within their current apartment, residents may be eligible to upgrade to another apartment home of a larger size at Stanford West.
The initial lease term for the new apartment must be a minimum of twelve (12) months. However, lease terms cannot exceed duration of the resident's Qualifying Employment. If the duration of Qualifying Employment is less than 12 months for the initial lease term for the new apartment, residents may not be eligible to upgrade.
Joining the Internal Waiting List
Residents requesting to upgrade to a larger apartment must submit a Request for Internal Transfer form. You may contact the Leasing Office to start this process. While residents must complete their initial 12 months of their tenancy within their current apartment before an upgrade can be offered, residents may join the Internal Waiting List ahead of time.
Upgrade Offers
There is limited availability at Stanford West Apartments, and external applicants who currently do not have other housing options receive first priority. When apartments come available and there is low interest from external applicants, apartments are offered to current residents of Stanford West who are seeking to upgrade to a larger apartment. While external applicants receive first priority during the high recruitment seasons at Stanford University, upgrades for internal residents are offered year-round (subject to availability and demand on the waiting list).
Signing your New Lease
When you have been offered and approved to move to your next apartment, rental rates and security deposits cannot be transferred from your current apartment to the new apartment. Any remaining deposit amounts after applicable deductions will be refunded to you for your current apartment after your move-out. A new security deposit and additional fees for your next apartment will be due at the time of application.
The initial lease term for the new apartment must be a minimum of twelve (12) months.
Your lease start date at the new apartment must not exceed 48 hours from your move-out date at your current apartment. Once your application is reviewed and approved for your next community, please finalize these dates with the Stanford West Apartments leasing office.
